Obituary: Hannah Peace

Hannah burned to death in 1923 near her residence in the Bottom. She was the daughter of Eva Peace and Boyboy and the sister of Rekus, Pearl, and Plum, who she heroically tried to save as he burned to death. She did not marry, rather had her fun with a variety of men. She did not have many friends as she enjoyed messing around with their husbands. Hannah was mother to Sula. Hannah never felt truly loved by her mother and this resonated in her relationship with Sula. However, as the fire that took her life was burning upon her, Hannah’s mother Eva risked her own life for her daughter’s. Although her efforts were not successful, Hannah would have appreciated her mother’s love and selflessness. Hannah will be missed by some.
